OT detection vs a running industrial security program
A sensor shows what is on the network. A running program assigns an owner, a site, and a close date, then stores the evidence. Resilion is built for the second job.
Two jobs buyers mix up
Plant operators compare us to detection platforms even when we refuse the label. The table states the jobs. We do not rank vendors. Pick the job you need done.
| Lens | OT detection platform | Running program |
|---|---|---|
| Job | See assets and threats on the network | Assign the work, close it on each site, keep the proof |
| Input | Packets, assets, detections | Standards, policies, and the assessments you paid for |
| Output | Inventory, alerts, investigations | Site-tiered tasks, owners, and an audit trail as work closes |
| Plant network | Sensors sit on SPAN or TAP | Resilion does not sit on the plant network |
| People | Analysts triage alerts | Named owners receive site-specific work |
What Resilion does in that job
Resilion ingests your standards, policies, and audit findings. It scores maturity against IEC 62443 and NIST CSF, drafts the governance you are missing, routes site-tiered tasks to named owners, and captures evidence as each task closes. It does not decode Modbus on a SPAN port.
Keep the sensor. Run the program. See the Resilion platform. If the last deliverable was a PDF, read assessment PDF vs a running program. If the last comparison was GRC, read OT GRC vs a running program.
// FAQ
OT detection, answered
- Is Resilion an OT detection platform?
- No. Detection vendors show you what is on the network and what looks hostile. Resilion runs program work: owners, sites, close dates, and evidence. Those are different jobs.
- Can we keep our OT detection platform?
- Yes. Keep the sensor if you need visibility. Hillstrong still has to turn findings and assessments into site-owned work. Resilion is that execution layer.
- Does Hillstrong compete with OT monitoring?
- ConvergeWatch is Hillstrong managed monitoring when you want eyes on the IT/OT boundary. It is a service. It is not a substitute for the program Resilion runs.
- What should we do after we buy a sensor?
- Assign owners to the gaps the sensor cannot close: governance, vendor access, IR, restore. See what to do after an OT security assessment.
